Printed & Stitched is a collaborative exhibition between Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA) and the California Society of Printmakers (CSP) that explores the convergence of printed imagery and sewn fibers. This unique exhibition showcases the work of artists who incorporate elements of both printmaking and stitching in their creations, resulting in pieces that are both visually stunning and conceptually rich. The show brings together talented artists who are pushing the boundaries of traditional printmaking and fiber art techniques to create captivating pieces that blur the line between two seemingly distinct art forms. The exhibition features a diverse range of techniques, styles, and themes, all coming together in celebration of the synergy between printmaking and quilting. From hand-pulled prints with sewn accents to quilts incorporating printed elements, a fresh perspective is offered on the possibilities that arise when these two art forms intersect. The show includes over sixty artists from both SAQA and CSP.

In place of the usual in-person show, the goal of the SAQA Oregon Emergence: Fiber Art from Concept to Stitch exhibition was a book with a fresh spin: focus on the process rather than the end result. The book is an array of artists’ stories, photographs, and details about techniques with an intimate view into creating art quilts from the artists’ point of view. As in other shows, SAQA members were selected through a jurying process. But this journey differed in that submissions required a written proposal, an artist statement, and images of previous work. The challenge was simple: create an art quilt and prepare your work for publication during a prescribed six-month period.
This book is available for purchase on Amazon (digital and print) and venues are being scheduled for in-person viewing of selected pieces. Additional images can be viewed on the SAQA Oregon website.
